PATIENTS

Rapid
Response Team

The Rapid Response Team (RRT) at RMCHCS is a group of specially trained staff members who respond quickly when a patient shows signs of becoming critically ill. The goal of the RRT is to intervene before a medical emergency, such as a heart attack, occurs.

Purpose of the Rapid Response Team:
The RRT acts swiftly to ensure patient safety. They may recommend laboratory tests, X-rays, medications, or transferring the patient to an intensive care unit (ICU).

When to Call the Rapid Response Team

The Rapid Response Team should be called if there are concerns that a patient is becoming significantly sicker or uncertain about a patient’s condition. Key warning signs include:

  • Changes in heart rate or breathing rate
  • A significant drop in blood pressure
  • Changes in urinary output (much more or much less urine than normal)
  • Confusion or changes in mental status
  • Any situation where something does not look or feel right about a patient

How to Call the Rapid Response Team

  • Ask a Nurse: Notify a nurse immediately if you notice any warning signs above.
  • Call Directly:
From an in-hospital phone, dial ext. 7000 and request the Rapid Response Team.
From an external phone, call 505-863-7000.

The Rapid Response Team is here to provide timely assistance and ensure the best possible patient outcomes in critical situations. Always trust your instincts and act promptly when in doubt.
