Impact of DAISY Recognition

The DAISY Foundation was established by the family of J. Patrick Barnes, who passed away in 1999 from complications of an autoimmune disease (ITP). The extraordinary care and compassion shown to Patrick and his family inspired them to create this award to express gratitude to nurses worldwide publicly.

Today, thousands of healthcare facilities and nursing schools honor nurses with The DAISY Award, recognizing their dedication and compassion.

The areas of profound impact are:

Nurse Engagement

  • Fosters extraordinary, compassionate care.
  • Boosts job satisfaction and retention rates.
  • Enhances well-being and resilience among nurses.

Healthy Work Environment

  • Celebrates the values and commitment of nursing.
  • Reinforces nurses’ sense of purpose and teamwork.
  • Promotes a culture of pride and collaboration.

Patient & Family Experience

  • Communicates heartfelt gratitude.
  • Reinforces patient- and family-centered care.
  • Strengthens community trust and loyalty.

The Healer’s Touch

DAISY Award recipients receive:

  • A certificate of recognition.
  • A signature lapel pin.
  • A hand-carved stone sculpture titled “A Healer’s Touch” was created by artists in Zimbabwe. This sculpture symbolizes the profound relationship between a nurse and their patient.
