Wayne H. Gillis has officially accepted the Chief Executive Officer position with RMCHCS and his first day will be November 18, 2024.
Wayne was born at Patrick Airforce Base in Coco Beach, FL. and lived in central Florida until his late 30’s. He and his wife, Kathy, were married on April 30, 1988, and have two children (grown and gone) and have been blessed with four lovely grandchildren!
Wayne is a Registered Nurse, having earned an Associate of Arts Degree in Nursing from Central Florida Community College. He also has both a Bachelors and Master’s degree in Business Administration from Saint Leo University in Saint Leo, Florida. Additionally, he is certified as a Black Belt in the Lean Six Sigma program.
Wayne was the first person in his family to earn a college degree. His wife’s family had medical professionals, and she wanted to go to nursing school after high school. She started nursing school after she and Wayne got married. It was in her first semester of nursing school that Wayne realized how many different nursing career options there were and so he decided to pursue nursing as well.
He says, “I grew up during the 16-years I spent at Leesburg Regional Medical Center, both clinically and in leadership. I had an amazing mentor and was able to tackle all kinds of departments and expand outside of nursing.” Wayne ended that phase of his career as the System Associate Vice President of Clinical and Nursing Services, Central Florida Alliance, Leesburg Regional Medical Center.
When asked why he moved beyond nursing, Wayne replied, “As I was given opportunities to expand my abilities my influence in the organization grew wider and wider; learning all aspects of hospital operations intrigued me, and I felt it could help me lead my clinical departments. As I ventured more into other parts of the hospital, becoming a COO is where I wanted to end up. At that time, I never had any aspiration to become a CEO; that didn’t happen until another mentor saw that ability in me!” From 2007 until 2019, after leaving Leesburg Regional, Wayne served in a number of hospital and system leadership roles in Arizona, Texas, and North Carolina.
Wayne then took a break from hospital leadership, serving as CEO of the Executive Healthcare Operations Consultant Company. His consulting work grew out of a request from several vendors who asked him to help them with strategic planning, business proposals, and process improvement. He loved that work but it never evolved into something that would be permanent. He served as a consultant for 8 years before moving back into traditional hospital leadership at the Great Falls Health Network in Great Falls, MT.
David comes to RMCHCS with over 20 years of experience in healthcare Finance and Operations. Earlier in David’s career, at the University of Pennsylvania Health System, he worked as a Perfusionist in the Surgery department. His clinical background as a Perfusionist allows him to discuss medicine more effectively with physician partners.
David holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Penn State, a Bachelor of Science in Perfusion Technology from Medical University of South Carolina, and a Masters of Health Administration from Seton Hall University.
On a personal note, David is married and has a son age 12 along with a daughter who is age 10.
