& Responsibilities

A patient or their representative who is legally authorized to act on the patient’s behalf must be informed of their rights before receiving care or when care is discontinued.

RMCHCS is committed to ensuring that the basic rights and responsibilities of patients are respected while providing healthcare services. We are dedicated to delivering the highest quality care, honoring patients’ rights, and helping them understand their responsibilities as patients.

As a Patient, you have the right to:

  • Receive care, treatment, and services regardless of age, race, ethnicity, religion, culture, language, physical or mental disability, socioeconomic status, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or source of payment.
  • Be treated with courtesy and consideration, supporting your dignity and respecting your cultural and personal values, beliefs, and preferences.
  • Safety, privacy, and confidentiality.
  • Effective communication in a manner that meets your oral and written communication needs.
  • Receive information in a way that you can understand.
  • Participate in decisions regarding your care, treatment, and services.
  • Pain management.
  • Access religious and spiritual services.
  • Access, request amendments to, and obtain information regarding disclosures of your health information in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Refuse care, treatment, and services in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Give or withhold informed consent.
  • Give or withhold informed consent regarding the production or use of recordings, films, or other images for purposes other than your care.
  • Be treated with respect and have your rights protected during research, investigations, and clinical trials.
  • Be informed of the individuals responsible for your care and those providing your care, treatment, or services.
  • Address end-of-life care, treatment, and service decisions through advance directives in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Be free from neglect, exploitation, and verbal, mental, physical, and sexual abuse.
  • An environment that preserves your dignity and fosters a positive self-image.
  • Have complaints reviewed by RMCHCS without fear of coercion, discrimination, reprisal, or unreasonable interruption of care.
  • Contact the state directly to voice a complaint.
  • Receive timely referral for concerns about the quality of care or premature discharge to the appropriate review committee/authority.
  • Access protective and advocacy services.
  • With your consent, receive visitors you designate, including but not limited to a spouse, domestic partner (including same-sex domestic partners), other family members, or friends, and the right to withdraw or deny such visitors at any time.

As a Patient, you have the responsibility to:

  • Provide accurate and complete information to facilitate your care, treatment, and services.
  • Ask questions or acknowledge when you do not understand your treatment or care decisions.
  • Follow instructions, policies, rules, and regulations designed to support quality care and a safe environment for all individuals in the hospital.
  • Maintain mutual consideration and respect by using civil language and conduct in interactions with staff and licensed independent practitioners.
  • Ensure that your financial obligations for healthcare services are fulfilled as promptly as possible.
